Since 2006, the Ecominga Foundation has facilitated and conducted biodiversity research and conservation on the upper basin of the Pastaza River in Ecuador ( Ríos-Alvear & Reyes-Puig, 2015 Reyes-Puig et al., 2019). On the other hand, deforestation, habitat change, climate change and mainly diseases (e.g., chytridiomycosis) threaten to cause the extinction of species before they are known to science ( Gibbons et al., 2000 Todd, Willson & Gibbons, 2010 Scheele et al., 2019). Knowledge of the diversity of amphibians in Ecuador is constantly increasing, with 609 species formally described to date ( Ron, Merino-Viteri & Ortiz, 2019).
